Kamaraj Pharaoh Hounds came into being in 1975 with the purchase of a 9mo. Old male named Beltara’s Kamaraj Set. Not too long after that a puppy bitch came along her names was Mishkan Kamaraj Tiye.
My first sight if a Pharaoh Hound was in Sighthound Magazine where I saw a picture of an 8wk old puppy with the huge ears and beautiful face. All of the Breeders seemed to be on the West Coast but after much searching I found one a little closed in Kingston, NY.

I had shown Afghans and Salukis for a few years but I could hardly wait to show my Pharaoh Hounds. At the time they were not accepted by the AKC so we showed them at the Rare Breed Shows and worked very hard for full recognition. That came in 1984 where we were accepted into the Hound Group in the AKC.

The Pharaoh Hound was able to compete at Lure Coursing events because they had been approved by ASFA. And run they did and still do today. It is wonderful to watch them race after the “Bunny” with such determination and speed and grace. They never seem to get tired of the game.
Pharaoh may not be the dog for everyone due to their independence and free thinking. It can be a challenge keeping one step ahead of this very smart dog. But that is why I love them so much.
I hope you enjoy these pictures of the Kamaraj Pharaoh Hounds from the Past, Present and Future!
